Anna Hopkins is a Director's Guild of Canada and Canadian Screen Award nominee whose career in film and television spans nearly two decades.

As an actor, she made her feature film debut opposite Paul Giamatti in Barney's Version, and has since built a body of work defined by range and specificity, leading independent films as well as acclaimed television, most notably as series regular Monica Stuart on The Expanse. Her performance in Chloe Okuno’s V/H/S/94 was praised by The New York Times as “note perfect,” and she earned a Teen Choice Award nomination for her villainous turn on Netflix’s cult hit Shadowhunters.

Expanding her practice behind the camera, Hopkins has drawn on her years as an actor to develop character driven work as a writer and director. Her first television pilot was optioned by New Metric Media (Letterkenny) and set up for development at NBCUniversal, while her second was optioned by veteran director Ken Kwapis (The Office, The Paper).

Hopkins’ short films have screened at major international festivals including Toronto International Film Festival, the Austin Film Festival, New York Film Week, and HollyShorts. Her short Underpaint was selected by Telefilm Canada as one of seven films representing Canada at the Cannes Short Film Corner. Her most recent short, Dish Pit, premiered at TIFF, received a Directors Guild of Canada nomination, and was selected for Vimeo Staff Pick.

In tandem with her film career, Anna runs a pizza joint with her husband in Toronto, Danny’s Pizza Tavern, where she shot Dish Pit.
